Description
Do you like cartoons? Do you like animation? Do you like to draw? Do you hate to draw? Then why not take an animation class taught by (not only) a professional animator, but a talented genius and all-around wonderful person? Maybe there's no one like this at Sylmar, but Mrs. Michels is still teaching this class.

Assignment

Over the break, search for the SUBJECT/SITUATION for your Cautionary Tale - or 'Story of Warning'. Watch movies, television, the NEWS/ current events, and the internet to find something appropriate for your story. Gather several options, in case Mr. Austin, Mr. Martinez, Mr. Knipe, or myself say, "No." Always have a backup plan!!!

Take the link below to see the story of Little Suck-A-Thumb.

Assignment

Your Notebooks are DUE!!!! This is in ADDITION to your homework over the break.
I expect you'll be reading this @midnight of Monday morning. :-O

Here's what the Notebooks should have so far...

Inside Cover: This is where we'll attach the table of contents - just leave it blank.
Page 1: The first piece of paper in your notebook = signed syllabus with the signatures facing up.
Page 2: Keep this page blank for now, you will put your resume here when I hand it back to you. This was going to be the T o C, but I forgot about the resumes. :-O
Page 3: The Bouncing Ball Flipbook Notepage. Make sure you discuss squash & stretch, timing & spacing, and why we need to exaggerate in animation.
Page 4: A summary of "the Little Thumbsucker," followed by a personal Cautionary Tale about YOU. Pictures, doodles, ideas & such.
Page 5: "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" - a brief description of my student film, "Hell in a Handbasket" - and drawings, doodles or written descriptions of what this proverb inspires.
Page 6: summary for "Vincent," an early film by Tim Burton - We discussed how this could be Tim Burton's personal "Cautionary Tale." Then we watched Fam Guy where Peter gets addicted to Redbull. We listed the cost/benefit for Peter drinking that much Redbull... and then kerosene.
lastly, Page 7: We watched the Fam Guy version of the Little Thumbsucker, then we watched some Canadian animation - Special Delivery, a cautionary tale that men should always do what their wife tells them :-) and the Big Snit, where an old, married couple get into an argument over cheating at Scrabble, their little annoyances with each other and the whole time the world is under nuclear attack (without them knowing it). You just need some quick summaries on these films - and noting anything you might think is important, or non-important, enjoyable or just plain stupid. :-)

Make it PRETTY!!!!! :-) :-) :-)
