Practical Math (Period 6)

Course Description

Practical Math is one of the alternate curriculum courses that will help students become productive, independent adults by improving functional skills in the domains of communications, self-care/independent living, motor skills/mobility, vocational, social/emotional and recreation/leisure. Alternate curriculum courses align functional skills with standards-based core curriculum using a subset of the California standards in English/language arts, mathematics, science, and history/social science.

Practical Math emphasizes basic skills for using money in the purchase of consumer goods and services. Students develop functional skills in the use and relationships of monetary coins and paper. They also apply monetary skills to the purchase of functional items needed for self or home. Students enter into and move through the standards at an individual pace.
