Math Analysis AB Sylmar High School Mr. Kugel I. Expectations: 1. Do not talk or leave your seat while the teacher is talking. 2. Work on you math assignment until finished and turn it in at the proper time. 3. Bring your materials to class and be on time. 4. Respect others and their property. 5. Score 70% or higher on the tests and quizzes. II. Grading Scale: A, 90-100%; B, 80-89.5%; C, 70-79.5%; D, 60-69.5%; F, below 60%; The teacher will use the Easy Grade Pro computer program and regularly update students on their progress and percentage of total points. III. Math Assignments: Tests will be worth 100 points. Students receiving less than 70 points on the test will be eligible to take a make-up test (a different version) before school from 7:00 to 7:45 a.m. in room 115. Quizzes will be 10-25 points. Chapter Notes will be 10 points. Chapter Assignment Packets (including the Warm Ups and Book Work) will be 50 points. Students who get less than 30 points on the packet can turn in a corrected packet within 3 school days and get a higher score. IV. Math Analysis Essential Learnings: Math Analysis which includes Trigonometry builds on the skills and concepts of Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2. The course is intended for those students who wish to attend a four year college. Math Analysis prepares students for college-level calculus. The Essential Learnings for Math Analysis A are: EL 1-Solve and graph elementary parent functions by shifting, stretching and reflecting. EL 2-Solve and graph polynomials and rational functions. EL 3- Perform the basic operations on and graph complex numbers. EL 4- Solve and graph exponential and logarithmic functions. EL 5- Understand and graph the six trig functions. The ELs for MA B are: EL 6- Simplify trig identities by using the various trig formulas. EL 7-Solve problems with matrices and determinants. EL 8- Understand and apply sequences and series. EL 9- Identify and graph conics. V. Final Exams: A final exam will be given at the close of each semester. The final exam will cover the ELs of the previous semester and will be worth 200 points VI. Math Books: The student will be issued a Math Analysis book. If the correct book is not returned, the student will be charged the price of the book.
