Dear Students, Parents, and Community Members,

Welcome to the 2023/2024 school year! I am proud and honored to be serving as the Principal at Sylmar Charter High School and to continue the rich tradition of Spartan excellence. I am eager to assist students and families with the realization of their goals of college and career readiness.  Our faculty and staff design meaningful learning activities for each student, deliver high-quality instruction, and we are committed to provide the support necessary to meet students where they are in their pursuit of academic excellence.

The safety of our students, staff, and families remains my top priority and we continue to follow the guidance of the Los Angeles Department of Public Health and the LAUSD.  Our COVID safety protocols still include high-performance air filtration systems, and the provision of masks and Rapid Antigen Tests for students and employees.  We highly encourage wearing surgical style face masks and self-screening daily.  Students and employees should wash/sanitize their hands frequently and should not report to school if they are experiencing COVID symptoms.  Students and Staff are highly encouraged (but not required) to take a Rapid Antigen Test 24-48 hours prior to the first day of school, following a break, or after returning from traveling out of the area.  Only positive test results should be uploaded to the Daily Pass.

Parent participation is one of the keys to academic success.  As students reach their high school years, parent engagement in their child’s education is a difference-maker in the web of support young adults need to reach their potential in the preparation for college and career.  Your active participation in your child’s education is critical to their success.  All students are provided a dedicated device (and WiFi access if needed) to ensure connectivity and equitable access to digital resources. 

Sylmar Charter High School maintains an active parent center and provides multiple opportunities for parent engagement.  I encourage you to visit our web page often at www.sylmarhs.org for updates and important information.  Parents and guardians have the opportunity to serve as a volunteer, site counsel participant, and ALL parents should activate and regularly use their LAUSD PASSport account to safely and securely monitor their child’s attendance, grades, and progress towards meeting A-G requirements.  Sylmar Charter High School offers a variety of resources for both students and parents on site and with our community partners.  Please check the calendar of parent workshops under the "Parents" tab on our website.  I also invite you to join me monthly in our parent center for "Coffee with the Principal" where I will provide timely, relevant information and updates in support of our student's and family's success.
