Cynthia Pineda

I began my career in education as a Paraprofessional. In 2007, I became a District Intern and taught Kindergarten to 5th grade in the Northwest San Fernando Valley. In 2018, I became a Title III Instructional Coach, and in 2021 I became a Sylmar Spartan as a Targeted Student Population Adviser and English Learner Designee.

My educational background encompasses a degree in Sociology with a Minor in Psychology from CSUN and a Master's degree in Education from UCLA. I was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley and am a product of LAUSD.

My passion lies in equitable practices such as sociocultural instruction, and the affirmation of all student identities. As an advocate for transformative education, I am committed to nurturing environments where empathy, respect, and inclusivity thrive, paving the way for a brighter and more equitable future for all.

I grew up in the Sylmar community and I am a proud alumna of Sylmar Charter High School. It is an honor and my pleasure to serve you and your child as an Assistant Principal. All children can learn. This summarizes my educational philosophy, and everything I do is a reflection of this simple and powerful statement.  I am passionate about education and dedicated to providing opportunities for students to experience success.

I am delighted to serve as the Assistant Principal for the School of Business, Technology and Design, as well as the Science and World Languages Departments.  My primary responsibilities include the Attendance Office, the School Calendar, the Weekly Bulletin, our Emergent Bilinguals Program, our school's facilities, our school's cafeteria, our construction projects, our testing programs, and this website. My office is located in the Dean's Office, and my email is [email protected]. I have an open door policy, so you are welcome to stop by at any time.

I have been privileged to serve the students and staff of the Los Angeles Unified School District since 1987. I taught Biology at Abraham Lincoln High School for five years, and then came to Sylmar High School in 1992. From that point until 2006, I was honored to serve the Spartan Family as a teacher, a counselor, and an Assistant Principal. I then served as an Assistant Principal at Robert Fulton College Preparatory School for seven years, before returning home to the Sylmar Family. I am excited about serving and supporting the students, parents, and staff at this wonderful school!

I earned my degree in Biology at UCLA, and my Master's degree in Educational Administration from Cal State-Dominguez Hills.  I completed further graduate work in Educational Psychology at Cal State-Northridge. In my passion for improving our school, I am committed to cultivating a positive school milieu based on responsibility, respect, and academic readiness.  It is my mission to promote the understanding that every student counts, in an effort to ensure that each student has the support of caring adults.

I look forward to working with the Sylmar Family to ensure that, as a Community of Learners, we continue to pursue excellence! Go, Spartans!
