Sylmar Shines Again! We Have Just Been Selected for the Amazon Future Engineer Program!

Sylmar Charter High School has been selected to participate in the Amazon Future Engineer Program, a program that will be offered in the 2019-2020 academy year in partnership with Amazon and Edhesive. A cornerstone of this program is a new course, AP Computer Science A – Java, which helps students develop a foundational understanding in core computer science and programming concepts. Sylmar Senior High has once again made the U.S. News & World Report National Rankings. This is the third consecutive year in which our school has earned this distinction. Schools are ranked on their performance on state-required tests, graduation and how well they prepare students for college. Meet This Week's Spartan Scholar of the Week!

For the Week of 12.09.2019: This week’s Spartan Scholar is Alainah Reyes, a 12th grader in our Leadership, Arts and Media Academy. Alainah plays the trumpet in our Marching Band, where she serves as a section leader for all of the trumpet players. Alainah is planning to attend California State University, Sacramento, in the Fall. She will major in Psychology, and she aspires to become a Social Worker in order to help those in need. Congratulations, Alainah! For this honor, our scholar's name and photo will be placed on the marquee and on the home page of our web site all week. In addition, our scholar has received a special Spartan Scholar Medallion, a Sylmar limited edition tumbler, a meal at Marie Callender’s Bakery, and a Spartan mini-football. Meet Our Perfect Attendance Scholars for November 2019!

For the Month of November 2019: In a concerted effort to celebrate our students' attendance accomplishments, we have a Monthly Perfect Attendance Award! Each month, we randomly select two students who have achieved a perfect attendance record throughout the previous month. The winners for November 2019 are Jose Andrade and Lizeth Avina Orozco from our Leadership, Arts and Media Academy. For this honor, they will receive several great prizes: a $10 gift card for In-N-Out Burger, a special edition Sylmar tumbler, and a unique Perfect Attendance Medallion! Read Our Attendance Expectations Here!

It is imperative that you come to school on time and ready to learn every day. Each Spartan Scholar is expected to be in school for 96% of the time. This means that you must attend 173 days of the 180 school days. If you are absent for sixteen or more days, then you are considered to be "chronically absent." Seniors - Our 2019-2020 Senior Attendance Policy Is Now Available!

All Class of 2020 seniors, as a condition for participating in Senior Activities and the Graduation Ceremony, must have a record of good school attendance during their senior year. Good school attendance will be determined by the guidelines established in our Senior Attendance Incentive Program and will affect participation in the ceremony and senior activities. The Senior Attendance Incentive Program begins on the first day of school, August 20, 2019, or the first day the student enrolled into our school. All absences, both excused and unexcused, from that day forward until the end of the school year will be counted for the Senior Attendance Incentive Plan. Please click on the link for the details!
